Here’s a list of features I plan to add to the Bedevere MUD engine. They are in the order I plan to add them, though it is not fixed in stone (like the 10 Commandments, which are very good rules to follow).
- Time based descriptions
Appended to the end of each room/area description will be a short sentence describing the time of day. i.e., a soft orange glow can be seen to the west as the sun sets. Each room/area can be designated as in door or out door.. As a possible addition, the sun rise/set and moon phase might be based on real time data.
- Lighting System
Room lighting (visibility) will be set to always lit, always dark or time based. A torch or other light source will need to be used in dark rooms/areas. Mobs light source will be set to use light source, night vision or none. These room and mob settings will affect movement and combat. It’s gets complex so I chose not to outline it here, I will go into detail when I post about it’s implementation.
A centralized bank system where you can deposit gold and later retrieve it from any bank branch.
Prebuilt housing units for rent (or possibly purchase). Rent will be automatically deducted from your bank account. If you don’t have the funds in your account you will get kicked out of your housing unit and either forfeit your belongings in the unit, or they will go up for auction. Not sure which yet.
Simple quests that can be setup by the engine administrator.
A simple, in game, player to player messaging system.
